“You need deep pockets” to have a good time at this luxurious, rather conventional-looking American-style grill near the old US Embassy in Mayfair, from Richard Caring’s Caprice group – but those who do say it “never disappoints”“couldn’t have asked for more (apart from a smaller bill!!)”

This lavish take on an American grill from Richard Caring’s Caprice group, near the former US Embassy in Mayfair, excelled this year with its “well-prepared food”, “extensive wines list” and “superb service”. The only real complaint? It can seem “just ridiculously expensive”. But this complaint was less in evidence this year.

This swish New York-style grill, appropriately round the corner from the ex-US Embassy in Mayfair, has a lower profile than its siblings in Richard Caring’s stable, remaining “so under the radar” for almost a decade. The “safe and easy menu” is “a little uninspiring and expensive, which is unsurprising given the location”, but its “unobtrusively attentive service” helps make it a “dependable” all-rounder.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
