This “very well run” Brentford backstreet boozer was created five years ago out of the former Albany Arms by Pete Brew – clearly a victim of nominative determinism, he has even established an in-house nano-brewery, Fearless Nomad. Fans say, “the food is as good as it gets in a pub, and all the better for having a brilliant selection of cask and keg ales to choose from”.

This “cracking boozer in Brentford” has “a most original and well-executed gastropub menu” including a bar-snacks list of 31 Iberian tinned fish or seafood choices, served with grilled sourdough. There’s “good real ale”, with surprises from Fearless Nomad, a one-barrel nano-brewery in the garden, and a “strong wine list” featuring an unfiltered Sicilian white on tap. “Great service and vibe” come courtesy of Pete Brew (yes, really) and Ash Zobell, who launched it from the ashes of the former Albany Arms in 2018.

“An amazing yearling, head and shoulders above the competition locally” – this autumn 2018 opening in Brentford is the brainchild of an Aussie and Canadian couple, Pete and Ash, who have gone for it with their 14 kegs, five real ales, five real ciders and in-house brewery (Fearless Nomad). All this plus a consistently highly-rated menu serving an eclectic mix of funked-up gastro-fare. “You need to book but it’s totes fab”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
