"The restaurant is striking in its aesthetic, with historic features and magnetic ambiance. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The food (I shared a fish platter from the set menu and had the pigeon pithivier and triple cooked chips from the a la carte, my mam shared the fish platter and had the venison pie from the set menu) was outstanding. We had the wine pairing too and I can’t recommend enough the intelligent choices made by our server. The entire experience was exceptional from start to end. Bravo, Blackfriars. *wine pairing: Hermit Crab and Conde Valdemar with fish platter Defesa and Amy Organic with pigeon pithivier and venison mince pie"
"In Newcastle Restaurant week this was the one Restaurant we desperately wanted to book for and boy was it worth the effort . The whole experience from arrival to departure was just exquisite . The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing just a perfect balance . The Restaurant is steeped in history and has a wonderful ambience, with some imagination you can feel you are dining at medieval banquet. The food is impeccably prepared with high quality ingredients and is absolutely delectable from the first bite until last . Whilst this was a specially priced promotion it in no way detracted from level of service and quality of food and drink we enjoyed. A starter of creamy , delicate Smoked Haddock and dill pate with pickled cucumber and a North Sea Fishcake with crisp Fennel Salad , scallop roe and citrus mayonnaise was followed by a quality piece of grilled cod which flaked beautifully and was so flavoursome complimented with a delicate caper and smoked bacon butter served with spinach . The deserts were equally delightful sticky toffee pudding served with a creamy banana ice cream and strawberry pavlova served with basil cream all beautifully presented prepared with care and dedication from some very talented chefs and served by very attentive staff resulting in a wholly enjoyable experience. A huge thank you to all of the staff who produced a memorable meal ."
