Simon Bradley has been cooking for well over 30 years at this stalwart venue, in a backstreet near Swiss Cottage tube station, whose smart interior is judged somewhere between “gloomy” and “pleasant”. The “mostly good” (if occasionally “erratic”) European cuisine and “nicely priced wine list” mean it’s “well above the norm for the area”, making it particularly “useful for a pre-Hampstead Theatre meal”.

Simon and Jolanta Bradley’s neighbourhood restaurant in Swiss Cottage has provided a professional experience for more than 30 years, with modern European cooking that’s a cut above what might be expected in its backwater location. Ratings are undercut by one or two reporters who see “room for improvement”. But there’s no doubting its “reasonable pre-theatre menu” is particularly useful for visitors to the nearby Hampstead Theatre.

This “friendly” neighbourhood spot with a “tasty” modern European menu has done stalwart service in a Swiss Cottage sidestreet for the best part of three decades. “They have a monopoly for convenience to the nearby Hampstead Theatre”, and serve an “efficient and stress-free” pre-theatre spread. The harsh would say the quality of the cooking can be “so so” – if it was a notch higher, this could be quite a destination.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
