“One of the sheer tastiest places to eat in town” – JKS Restaurants’ highly popular outpost in Bloomberg Arcade continues to inspire raves for its “delicious and different” Indian cuisine (very much “not your traditional curry house”). The large interior, with its many bars and TV screens, is more divisive: it’s “awesome” for its core clientele, but “the ambience screams ‘City Boys’ (especially when there’s sport on)”. Top Menu Tip – “Indo-Chinese chilli paneer lettuce cups… so many tastes at the same time!”

“Magnificent” Indian scoff (and surprisingly good value considering the location) has quickly earned a stellar reputation for this “superb” venue in the City’s Bloomberg Arcade (from JKS, “the same group as Trishna, Gymkhana etc”). It’s a “noisy” venue with plentiful TV screens showing sport and is a haven for “meat-lovers” – all of which gives it a decidedly male feel. But it “oozes fun”, and even detractors who find it “slightly excessively ‘City’” – and “about as authentic as Kim Kardashian” – concede that “there’s no doubt the food and drink can’t be beaten”.

“Mindblowing!” – this “colonially-themed” yearling in the City’s Bloomberg Arcade is “another smash hit from JKS” and “probably the best place to eat in the Square Mile” right now. Occupying a “comfortable (slightly macho) sequence of little rooms”, staff are notably “patient and helpful”, while foodwise “the focus is on Indian sharing plates” with “insanely good” grilled meats (lamb chops in particular), plus “all your local curry favourites, dressed up with wonderful, perfumed aromatics and dazzling dips”. “They don’t pull any punches when it comes to heat in dishes either”, and “there’s a strong drinks menu too” – you can see “thought has gone into the beer selection”. With numerous TV screens, “it’s a great place to watch sports” (“they even have a pool table!”)

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Dinner for 2. Indo-Chinese chilli paneer lettuce cups are just exquisite- the crunch of the lettuce versus the spice is brilliant and I’m almost surprised it hasn’t been more widely copied. Still a very masculine and “City” space. Soft shell crab, prawn and squid telicherry fry was equally excellent. The cheese and onion bhajis are obviously totally inauthentic but great fun. Rest of the food was up to its usual standard - it’s certainly the best Indian place to eat goat shoulder! Wine and cocktails on tap of very high calibre. "
