Harden's survey result
Summary
“Flying slightly under the radar”, this “superior City venue” is “a lovely find, right in the heart of the the Square Mile where it can be hard to encounter a good meal” (“clients are always pleased to visit it!”). “The front of house team are so charming” and deliver “precise and tasty” Gallic cuisine. The major attraction here, though, is the “comprehensive wine list” – “one of the best wine selections in London: it’s hard to find a better selection of Burgundy, but the other region lists are well represented”, with “many rewards to be found, both on pricing and rare gems”.
Summary
“A great restaurant in the heart of the City of London” is a very rare thing, and one its adherents are happy to shout about. “Owned and run by two Master Sommeliers” – Xavier Rousset and Gearoid Devaney – it boasts a “superb Burgundy-centric wine list”, supported by a “limited but very well cooked menu” from chef Edward Boarland, and “welcoming, unfussy service with a smile”. “It’s one of the best bets in the City and people are catching on”. Top Tip: “the amazing tarte tatin to share”.
Summary
“A stunning treasure trove of Burgundy wine” is just one of the attractions of this “buzzy and down-to-earth” three-year-old, near the Guildhall. The serving crew are “super friendly” and “knowledgeable”, while the regional French cuisine from head chef Edward Boarland is “luscious, beautiful, and nourishing (almost comfort food, but the quality is super-high)”. Often tipped as a top choice for business entertaining, it’s nevertheless “one of the very few such City restaurants in which you would want to actually spend your own money!”

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The chef
The Cabotte Head Chef, Edward Boarland, is a young talented chef who trained at The Waterside Inn and Royal Hospital Road with Clare Smyth. Edward has a passion for simple food done to the highest level, having learnt his trade in classic kitchens where quality ingredients take centre stage.
Having spent four years working in France, Edward brings his experience to Cabotte and creates a menu with French classics and also modern twists. A menu that evolves through the seasons, featuring a classic Beef Bourguignon to warm the London winter or a Sea bream & crab tartare for a light lunch mid-Summer.
Cabotte Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Cabotte did not disappoint. The service was very friendly and efficient. We shared a plate of cured meats as a starter and my husband then had a very tasty lamb dish and I had duck. I then had an excellent chocolate ganache for pudding - I came close to licking the plate. The confit leg of duck came in a fried croquette and was slightly overpowered by the flavourings, but the remainder of the meal was great and showcased the ingredients (particularly the chocolate pudding). We'll be heading back there soon."
