“Noisy!…but great margaritas” and some “very tasty” bites are the draw at the Hart Bros’ Mexico City-style street food specialist in Coal Drops Yard. On the debit side, it can be “hard to feel truly relaxed in this mammoth space”. See also El Pastor.

“Reliably magnificent” Mexico City-style street food has arrived in Coal Drops Yard, courtesy the Hart Bros’ El Pastor brand, a big hit when it launched at Borough Market five years ago. The adjoining Plaza Pastor is the outdoor (but covered) branch. The “authentic” tortillas are freshly made every morning at the outfit’s tortilleria in Bermondsey, using Mexican corn.

“Decent Mexican food finally arrives in the ’hood” – the Hart Bros’ Latino yearling in the new Coal Drops Yard development mixes “a bit of party atmosphere” with the “authentic” flavours of Central America (“the frijoles charros give me that beany homey hit that has finally filled the void left when I moved to London from San Francisco!”). Top Tip “great kids menu with DIY tacos”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
