“An ideal location next to the Thames” is a plus for both London outposts of this national chain, which have “superb” situations near Tower Bridge and Putney Bridge and outside terraces with cute outside ‘igloos’. In ethos, they resemble hotel brasseries… just without the attendant hotel: staff are “accommodating” and even if the food is not exciting it’s dependable and relatively affordable.

“The Christmas igloo during December was one of the nicest experiences ever…”“the absolutely stunning location on the Thames is perfect for a summers day…”“you can snuggle up on a sofa in front of the fire during the winter months…”; “the food is a bit so-so, but who cares?”: all are comments from fans of this all-day ‘club without membership’ near Tower Bridge. It’s part of a growing chain, with most branches in the Thames Valley, and a (much less interesting) sibling in a bank-conversion looking across the road to St Paul’s Cathedral.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
