This canteen has served “delicious, great-value vegetarian thalis” and other South Indian specialities in the ‘Little India’ enclave behind Euston station for almost as long as the Queen has been on the throne. “Long may they reign their dosas over us!”

“This long-standing institution”“the first bhel poori house in Drummond Street” (the ‘Little India’ enclave behind Euston station) – offers “authentic and tasty vegetarian Indian street food for not much dosh”. There are “no surprises” here, and the “basic, very simple decor and pine furniture” are “unchanged in decades” – all part of the timewarp appeal to its legion of long-term habitués.

Perhaps “the best of the bunch among the Indian restaurants along Drummond Street near Euston” – this “no-frills institution” has served a “varied South Indian vegetarian menu” to a mixed crowd of students and office workers for the best part of 50 years. Its “terrific value” (and BYO policy) means it can be “too crowded for comfort”, but while the interior is “sketchy” it’s a joy to any style anoraks who want to know what a late 1960s canteen actually looked like.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
