Harden's says
With the September 2021 arrival of Swedish star chef Nicklas Ekstedt, the five-star Hyatt is continuing its creative, north European theme with this “godfather of wood-fired cooking” stepping into the shoes of The Yard by Robin Gill (RIP). It features Ekstedt’s “old Nordic” cuisine, which sees seasonal ingredients cooked over wood-grills in a (very) open kitchen.
Harden's survey result
Summary
“Really amazing use of the smoke and fire they cook with” (“there’s practically no gas or electricity in the kitchen!”) “produces lots of novel flavours” at star Swedish chef, Nicklas Ekstedt’s Whitehall yearling, which well-travelled reporters say “lives up to the Stockholm original” with its “inspired Nordic cuisine” (matched with “a novel selection of wines”). And “the lovely staff are really engaged with what they serve you” at this dining room within the five-star Hyatt: arguably, the most interesting culinary arrival of the year. One gripe, though: “some rather mean portions”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Ekstedt at The Yard, Great Scotland Yard Hotel Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Great food and enthusiastic team"
"Went for the 2 course option at £68 plus the fire snacks at £15 as we were going to a nearby theatre so only had 1.25hr. On the plus side, service was efficient. It was unclear what the relationship between the 3 mouthsize canapés and the fire was. The cheesy ball was intensely salty and the foam around the asparagus unpleasantly bitter. My sweetbread and morel starter was in contrast bland. Wife’s scallop OK. My sirloin had a lot of inedible gristle and was very tough. Again seasoning was challenging even for me a salt lover. My wife’s turbot looked unappealing with the skin curled up at the edges. This restaurant seems to rely on the drama of the open fire rather than the quality of cooking and at over £250 with a £60 bottle of wine this is extremely poor value."
