Summary
“Treat the winter blues with a schnitzel” at this Wolseley Group brasserie in Marylebone – a “smaller, more casual cousin of the Delaunay”, whose “understated” but cosy interior “whisks you off into an ambience of Continental sophistication” and provides a “lively” backdrop to a meal. True to the culinary DNA of the group, the “Austrian-style food” is “somewhat mediocre”, and given its inspiration “you need to be up-for some heavy dishes”. Prices are “fair”, though, and, all in all, “it’s a useful and reliable spot for lunch or a family meal”. Top Tip – “they understand breakfast here!”
Summary
With its “glorious interior”, Corbin & King’s “buzzy Viennese” all-day café in Marylebone is “a lovely, nostalgic and comforting experience”, which – even if it is “a bit pricey” nowadays – “presses all the buttons” if you are hankering for schnitzel Holstein, breakfast gröstls, rye sandwiches and the like. “I love this place and missed my Austrian holidays this year, so the food reminds me of those missed trips”.
Summary
“Reminiscent of a grand café in turn-of-the-century Vienna” – Corbin & King’s “warm, cosy, and gemutlich” operation has “a Mittel-european vibe of posh coats, lipstick and gossip”, and is just the place to hole up on a winter’s day in particular. Its “broad and comforting menu” of Austro-Germanic fare does have many fans (who say “the schnitzel is a must-have”), but can also seem “stodgy and also rather overpriced”. Top Tip – “if you’ve never had Gröstl for breakfast, go now! Birchermüsli... Kassler Ham and boiled eggs on proper rye sourdough… herrings and kippers. And yes, strudel IS an acceptable breakfast food! With Einspanner coffee (topped with whipped cream), a lovely start to the day. Embrace the atmosphere… and don’t make any plans for lunch!”

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Still fun but prices on the rise - seemed short of staff"
"We went for schnitzels & left very happy - though they now only come in one size - giant! Attentive & efficient service."
"You don’t come here for the food, you come because it is dependable and one step up from the Ivy chain."
"It is still the best you will get for Austrian food in London but not quite the real thing. They now add 15% for service a bit over the top. No great change overall under the new ownership "
"Very pleasant lunch, good continental food. "
"Very busy and popular Austrian/German restaurant with authentic food. Unfortunately it was over priced and had personable but poor service."
