Harden's says
A fifth restaurant from Pamela and Ben McKellar, behind The Gingerman group; this new-build site has the 50-cover restaurant at the centre, complete with roof terrace.
Harden's survey result
Summary
“A massive cult favourite among people in the know in Brighton”, this Lanes outfit from Pamela & Ben McKellar’s Gingerman group is “now almost impossible to get into”, due to the fame of its small plates with “really interesting flavour combinations and seasoning”. It’s also “extremely good value”, thanks to “incredibly good use of cheap ingredients”. “Wish this was in London – but it’s a good reason to go to Brighton!”
Summary
“Innovative, delicious and charming” – this open-kitchen with counter and sharing plates venture in the ‘New Lanes’ development is “absolutely superb”. It’s also very different from its nearby siblings in Pamela & Ben McKellar’s high-performing Ginger group, and “has really succeeded in capturing a key slice of the local market”.
Summary
“A great addition to central Brighton, but totally different to other Ginger places: almost like an English Barrafina” – the fifth opening from Pamela and Ben McKellar occupies a new-build site that has a 50-cover eatery with open kitchen and counter, complete with a “pleasant upstairs bar and roof terrace”. Not everyone’s totally converted though: “the food choices are OK, but I found the limited small plates menu made it difficult to construct a great meal”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Flint House Restaurant Diner Reviews
"We had the short tasting menu. I don’t usually like tasting menus but this was really good value And a good representation of the kitchen. We sat at the counter and watched the kitchen at work. The food was very good. Pork belly was good. Cannellini beans and tahini was wonderful."
"High quality restaurant with innovative food, great service. Sat on terrace in sun which was great. Menu is just right - i.e. not too long but just enough choice to be fun. Great find (thanks to Hardens!) "
"Very impressive and imaginative cooking, really something for everyone, with super friendly service and a very tempting all-under £100 wine list. "
"Such a warm, friendly environment. The meal itself was presented perfectly but not perhaps as flavoursome as last time. Overall however a super place and I wouldn’t hesitate to go there again"
"Tasty small plates concept from the team behind The Gingerman. Roof terrace tucked away from hustle and bustle of city centre is great on a sunny day. "
