Harden's survey result
Summary
“Still an all-round top-notch experience”, chef Matt Gillan’s “lovely restaurant with rooms” serves “exceptional food at very reasonable prices”. His “Great British Menu ‘extra course’ of goat” (inspired by his mother, who is from St Helena) is also a “treat” – and it’s “worth staying overnight for the breakfast”, too. Top Tip – quirky wines are a feature, as are “cocktail pairings to die for, created for every dish”.
Summary
Matt Gillan’s two-year-old, crowdfunded pub-with-rooms – featuring masterclasses and stints from visiting top chefs – is “well worth a journey to this quiet village” by most, if not quite all, accounts (the odd quibble coming from those who’d previously visited The Pass, his ex-stomping ground, nearby). Top Tip – if you can’t get a seat in the restaurant, “the attention to detail still carries through” in the bar, whose “fun and tasty menu shows a different side to Matt’s cooking”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Heritage Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Limited choice menu, but it’s all great. Food is beautifully cooked and presented. Wine is pricey. Ask for a window table overlooking the fields."
"Hard to rate this. Too expensive for the experience. The signature goat-inspired plate was lovely. Many of the other dishes very enjoyable. But the time spent serving the meal was interminable. We, a party of 6, were exhausted and left well after our bed time. Excellent concept. The best food was excellent. Inappropriate, often dark rooms. Friendly though I’ll-considered delivery of the food."
