The last word in calm elegance on Cornwall’s south coast, Olga Polizzi’s famous former yacht club is “consistently classy”, with “good food, fantastic service” – and, inevitably, “prices to match”. The restaurant is open to non-residents but you need to book in the evening, while the Dogs’ bar and Beach Club offer more casual eating options.

“Olga Polizzi’s wonderful former yacht club is still as perfect as ever… to eat lobster linguine on the terrace on a sunny day is perfection”. While the odd reporter balks that it's “outrageously overpriced”, this ritzy hotel-restaurant put in a good show this year owing to its “lovely setting” and “good competent cooking, especially fish”. NB: though the clientele nowadays are “not quite as smart as in the past, this is decidedly not a place for flip flops!”

But despite its huge potential, it has seldom, over many years, achieved fully consistent feedback: and whereas fans applaud “fresh fish and seafood prepared by a chef who really knows what he’s doing” the odd reporter found the cooking disappointing and pricey, and service poor last year. In a similar vein, its “romantic” ambience has also, on some occasions, seemed somewhat elusive here of late.
