* Based on a three course dinner, half a bottle of wine, coffee, cover charge, service and VAT.

For a “really enjoyable, reasonably authentic Tapas experience”, all served in a “buzzing” environment, many would recommend this national chain’s four London branches (in Victoria, Canary Wharf, Farringdon and Marylebone). “Uneven” service can make them “a bit hit ’n’ miss” (especially in SW1) but one constant is “a particularly strong list of Spanish wines, many by the glass or carafe”.

“High quality, reasonably priced tapas”“as traditionally Spanish as ever and properly prepared” – alongside an “interesting selection of Spanish wines (many from less usual wine areas)” is the hallmark of this group that originated in Great Portland Street 15 years ago; now joined by branches in Victoria, Canary Wharf, Marylebone, Farringdon and Leeds. “The paella had just the right degree of socarrat” (the caramelised crust on the bottom).

From its first branch, on Great Portland Street, which opened in 2007, these “buzzy”, “authentic” and relatively stylish Spanish tapas-haunts grew into a national chain, boosted by their “consistent standards, fair quality and sensible prices” (although “service is a bit uneven”). Tough times saw the group go through a CVA in the second half of 2020 and the closure of Manchester and Glasgow outlets (leaving Leeds outside the Capital), but all London branches were saved and the formula and management seem to have survived the restructuring.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
