London Hackney Wick Restaurant Guide

Just across the canal from the Olympic Park – and with a large waterside terrace – this warehouse microbrewery (nice brews!) in ‘The White Building’ has just the right mix of grunge and hipster vibe to inspire a trip to Hackney Wick. Decent pizza too… but be prepared for a wait at busy times.

“Unbelievably good food…”, “so clever…”, “each dish was perfection…”, “the best fish dishes I’ve eaten…”, “mind blowing!” – Tom Brown inspires superlatives with the “small yet superbly composed” creations as his “truly innovative seafood destination”. “The décor is industrial as you would expect in trendy Hackney Wick” and you can “sit at the counter and watch the chefs at work”. Service that’s “highly professional without being stuffy or offhand” completes an “unfailingly amazing” formula that’s currently one of the strongest all-round performances in town. Top Menu Tip – “signature crab crumpet is changed for winter by adding a rarebit on top”.

Very limited feedback (but all of it upbeat) for Douglas McMaster’s more-eco-than-eco, zero-waste project, above Crate in Hackney Wick’s canalside White Building, which – in its drive for ‘quality through purity’ and ‘a more primitive diet… born from clean farming’ serves a menu of wacky, meat-free small plates and very off-piste wines.
