London Putney Restaurant Guide

This “buzzy” and “well-priced” modern Gallic quartet (Clapham, Putney and Wandsworth plus the City) keeps regulars happy with “interesting twists on the starters” and “some great weekly offers, eg ‘Lobster Night’”. One or two critics feel their performance is “half-hearted and disappointing”, but on most accounts they are an “extremely likeable attempt to recreate a French bistro”.

The “mix of Asian food slightly adapted for all tastes” and offered at “really reasonable prices” makes this long-running chain “a family favourite”. Founded at the Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury 26 years ago, it now has branches in Ealing, Putney, Kensington and Chiswick, along with two delivery-only kitchens. Top Tip – “you can’t beat the curry laksa”.

“Proper and authentic regional food” gives this Kashmiri restaurant – apparently the first of its kind in Britain – a real point of difference in Putney. Regulars agree that it’s “so good to try new dishes here, which are always delicious” – “served with ongoing geniality by the lovely owners”, Rohit and Shweta Razdan, who ran restaurants in New Delhi and Singapore before moving to SW15.

“Wonderful and authentic Sicilian food” – in particular, “incredible fresh pasta” – can be found at this “deli/restaurant, newly opened in Putney”. It calls itself a ‘gastro-bakery’, so all sorts of Sicilian nibbles are available alongside the “unusual pasta”. “Staff are friendly and welcoming”, and “the ambience is lively”.

Massimo Masili’s Sardinian showcase is a “very welcome new addition to the SW15 dining scene” thanks to its “excellent food and extremely friendly service”. It can, though, seem “too expensive for what it is” – “Putney location, Mayfair prices!”

“An ideal location next to the Thames” is a plus for both London outposts of this national chain, which have “superb” situations near Tower Bridge and Putney Bridge and outside terraces with cute outside ‘igloos’. In ethos, they resemble hotel brasseries… just without the attendant hotel: staff are “accommodating” and even if the food is not exciting it’s dependable and relatively affordable.
