“Been going for 30+ years and still love it” – this “shamelessly old-school Greek” is a longstanding north London destination, and fans say it’s “such a nice change from the ubiquitous, pretentious, small-plates places” in serving “traditional taverna fayre that’s perfectly decent, if not exciting”. What people really go a bundle on though, is its “lovely family-friendly atmosphere”, as fostered by “very approachable staff who have been there forever” (but who “can be slow at busy times”).

This “fun” Greek taverna in Primrose Hill has become a major north London institution in its 40-plus years, loved for its “friendly staff”, “great service” and “homely comfort cooking”. Complaints about “very average” meals – particularly “so disappointing” food – get louder every year though, with a chorus of critics saying it’s “living on memories”“not sure why it’s still so popular”.

“The miracle is that it doesn’t change”, say fans of this veteran Primrose Hill taverna: a “big, bustling, cheerful, noisy, Greek family-style restaurant that’s been around forever”, with particularly “warm” staff of decades’ standing, who “don’t just tolerate children, they positively welcome them.” Never exactly a foodie hotspot, “it’s time to revamp the menu…”, according to one fan, who then goes on to admit “…but I’ve been saying that since 1978!” In truth, though, the experience here is finally starting to show its age: there have always been one or two sceptics who “wonder why everyone makes such a fuss about the place”, but their number grows more numerous with each passing year.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
