Harden's survey result
Summary
This “great local bistro” from Bristolian chef Freddy Bird (ex-Bristol Lido) and his wife Nessy is “a dream to have on your doorstep” – although it’s “really popular now, so you need to book ahead”. It offers “fantastic French-inspired cooking, quite rich and in generous portions” – “the côte de boeuf was mighty and certainly required a lie down afterwards!”.
Summary
“Amazing: brought back memories of touring France and eating in wonderful country auberges”; Freddy Bird (ex-of the Bristol Lido) has a hit on his hands with this “friendly, buzzy bistro”, delivering “faultless French cooking” that's “good value” too. “What a find!”
For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Little French Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Freddy Bird's tiny, off the beaten track bistro continues to provide interesting and attractive dishes, using very fresh, local ingredients. The staff are welcoming and enthusiastic, but sommelier could do with some training. They now have a small deli down the road, which does meals as well."
"So disappointing - greasy and badly cut guinea fowl; really awful (and unpleasant looking) chocolate mousse and horrifically overpriced for what it was. sadly never again."
"Hard to get a table in this tiny french bistrot and quite a trip for us, but well worth it. The pommes aligot alone is worth the trip, absolutely delicious and indulgent. This is proper gutsy french cooking and delicious to boot. All three courses were well cooked and very tasty, the wood oven veal chop was amazing. Efficient and friendly service and a good wine list too and not all french. "
