Harden's says
Gordon Ramsay replaced his flagship Maze with this restaurant in the summer of 2019 to emulate “the drinking dens of Thirties Tokyo and the Far East”.
Harden's survey result
Summary
This “loud” Gordon Ramsay-backed venue in Mayfair (on the former site of Maze, long RIP) aims to channel the glam 1930s drinking dens of the Far East and serves a hodgepodge of dishes: from sushi to steak; from salads to seafood. Dreary ratings overall support those who say there are “so many better places to get much better pan-Asian fare”… so it’s just the time to start a roll-out then! with its first, much simpler spin-off – The Lucky Cat Noodle & Bar – taking over a Shoreditch site previously dedicated to chicken and waffles.
Summary
On the site that was Maze (RIP), the f-word chef launched this Mayfair pan-Asian fixture in summer 2019 with the aim of emulating ‘the drinking dens of Thirties Tokyo and the Far East’… only to unleash a social media storm about cultural appropriation. Our initial diner reports are quite mixed, and skewed to the negative: “basically anything by Gordon Ramsey is overpriced and only funds his narcissism”.
Summary
Gordon Ramsay replaced his ailing, former heavy-hitter ‘maze’ with this Pan-Asian Mayfair yearling in the summer of 2019 – his first opening in the capital in the last five years (and most notable for provoking a Twitter-storm of abuse about cultural appropriation seeing as the chap he recruited to head the kitchen is the thoroughly un-Asian, ex-Sexy Fish executive chef, Ben Orpwood). The restaurant, which cost over £5 million to refurbish, aims to emulate ‘the drinking dens of Thirties Tokyo and the Far East’ (not the first time we’ve heard that one) but opened too late for survey feedback.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Lucky Cat Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Gordon Ramsey’s stylish Asian food styled restaurant in central London is smartly presented with a sophisticated style. The food approach is sharing plates being served in the order they are prepared. It’s not cheap but in line with where it is located (egg fried rice was tasty but so it should be at the price, though did enjoy the showmanship of it being completed at the table). Problem is that there will be better Asian food inspired restaurants in central London at better pricing "
