Originally supposed to launch with Nuno Mendes at the helm, this Barworks project was then the first solo restaurant for TV chef and writer Gizzi Erskine (although she left in the summer of 2018) – the new neighbourhood venue in Hackney's Keltan House incorporates a bar, restaurant, deli and café.

Funky chandeliers, plants and random artworks lend an eclectic and energetic vibe to the dining possibilities of this hiply transformed Hackney office block (nowadays a 10,000 square foot market), where you eat (the same menu) in either the ‘Open Kitchen’ or the ‘Dining Room’ (cosier, with a higher concentration of design pieces). An array of pizzas is a menu mainstay as is a selection of small plates and a few grills. It’s not a foodie destination, but can be “good value”.

The “vibrant dining space” is a “very cool setting” with oodles of “laid back” street cred at this remarkable 10,000 square foot market (vintage design pieces, flowers, artisan coffee…) inside a groovily transformed Hackney office block. Strike lucky and you get “great pizza and burgers” too, but some dishes are “a bit less successful than others and the service can go a little MIA at times”.

“A wonderful addition to the area” – a 10,000 square feet market inside the transformed base of a formerly run-down, Hackney office-block, which is the brainchild of Marc Francis-Baum (owner of a string of bars and pubs). With its flowers, vintage design-pieces, artisan coffee, bar, open kitchen and ‘dining room’ he’s channeled hipster design pheromones to maximum zeitgeisty effect. It’s not a majorly foodie hotspot, but “the atmosphere’s buzzing, and the drinks are always flowing. Love it!”
