Amita Sawhney’s “fantastic Indian restaurant has been around for ages, but doesn’t disappoint”. It’s “not the cheapest, but friendly service and fantastic food” have earned it a stellar reputation. Top Tip – “try the tandoori ostrich” (free-range, locally farmed, infused with garlic and red chilli).

Amita Sawhney’s buzzy and capacious city-centre fixture is often touted as a leading light among Nottingham’s Indian restaurants, even on a par with London stars such as Benares and Cinnamon Club. The “excellent cooking” earns consistent and unanimous plaudits (if in relatively limited numbers this year), with dishes ranging from the traditional to the contemporary, at a good variety of price points – including a bargain early evening two-course set meal at just £15.95.

“Nottingham’s best Indian” and the most-commented-on restaurant in the city centre: Amita Sawhney’s “buzzy, friendly and efficient” fixture continues to inspire nothing but praise for producing “wonderfully flavoursome, yet refined, dishes time and time again”. Is it “the attention to detail and woman’s touch seemingly so apparent in the meet and greet, presentation… even down to the Molton Brown in the toilets?”. “I’ve eaten at many Indian restaurants all over the world, including renowned Michelin-starred ones in London. This is right up there, and at a decent price”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"A wonderful Indian restaurant . Delicately spiced food, not at all heavy/greasy and decent portions. Its a huge restaurant and a clear favourite for birthdays etc so excitement level can be high, but beautiful decor/furnishings mean noise level is fine. Prices are reasonable. A great find."
