Harden's survey result
Summary
The “food and wine are always interesting” and are “still as good as ever” at engaging Anglo-Scottish chef Gordon Jones’s former sandwich shop on the southern edge of town. There’s “a single tasting menu available” (the only choice is whether to have 7 or 9 courses) and it comes as a complete surprise, with each dish introduced as it arrives at your table (and no vegetarian or other options).
Summary
It's all about the “seven-course tasting menu (£70), not too heavy and a complete secret until they bring out the food and tell you about it” at chef Gordon Jones’s “friendly”, intimate venue, outside the town centre, and animated by “lots of cheerful banter” from the staff; “we have lived in Bath for 15 years, and are complete foodies, so why has it taken us so long to get here?!”.
Summary
“Gordon Jones is expert in the flavours he can coax out of sometimes-modest ingredients” and his ‘surprise’, no-choice tasting menu of “well-coordinated and beautifully presented” dishes makes his “small but sweet” venue (in a somewhat “ordinary location”, just outside the town centre) into “a foodie’s temple of joy!”. “Quirky but worth a detour”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Menu Gordon Jones Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Wow! Gordon Jones was terrific when I last went there, pre pandemic. Now, he is outstanding. They have been busy during lock downs, improving the interior of their tiny restaurant, adding humorous touches, reflecting chef’s slight eccentricity. Tasting style food without a menu. Every diner gets what he decides to cook that day, depending on availability and seasonality of interesting ingredients (he will make substitutions to cater for dietary restrictions). Never mind the incessant traffic outside, the clever cooking here transports you to a beautiful place. Wow!"
