This “hidden gem just outside Truro” from husband-and-wife team Ben & Sam Harmer features “impressive” cooking, “exceptional service” and a “splendid outdoor eating area” for warmer weather. Ben’s classical training took in the kitchens of The Savoy and Le Gavroche – hence “the soufflé is impressive”.

Ben & wife Sam Harmer’s striking timber-built venue with a large outside terrace, in a quiet valley near Truro, generates all but unanimous praise for the “really impressive cooking” on display – a legacy of Ben’s classical training in the kitchens of The Savoy and Le Gavroche.

“Idyllically located” – in a timber building complete with log-burner and large outside terrace, and set “next to former water gardens, in a sheltered, quiet valley a little way out of Truro” – this four-year-old venue doesn’t generate huge feedback, but such as there is lavishes it with praise. Prices are reasonable, and chef Ben Harmer offers a choice of four dishes for each course, with “an extensive local cheese board” a great way to finish a meal.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
