“Incredible cooking at very fair prices” matched with excellent wines has built a major following for Will Lander and Daniel Morgenthau’s “homely and calm” Fitzrovia destination, with open kitchen on view. “Knowledgeable and classy service” adds considerably to the experience: “it feels like a treat, and yet also has a real neighbourhood feel to it too, which for food of this standard and this central can be rare”.

“Very serious cooking that’s totally unpretentious”, with “exciting seasonal flavour combinations” and “sensational tastes”, won adulatory reviews this year for Will Lander and Daniel Morgenthau’s well-known Fitzrovian. It’s not a flash place – “a simple interior with open kitchen” – but “friendly, highly professional service” and access to “a good selection of sensible-price wines” further add to its appeal.

“Always on form, always interesting” – Will Lander and Daniel Morgenthau’s acclaimed Fitzrovian has won a serious culinary reputation over the years, with both an à la carte and tasting menu available lunch and dinner. Fans say its interior is “lovely and modern”, but – despite its “charming” service – the set-up can also seem a little too no-nonsense; the focus is very much on the modern European cuisine – “every dish is a success”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Disappointing given it has a Michelin star. Skate so undercooked it’s chewy, crab unappealing grey, sauce overly jammy for chicken. Rhubarb dessert raw and crunchy. Best thing’s the wine list - good value - delicious Puglia red ale "

"Not up to the mark for a 1 star Michelin. Tables are very close together indeed, and some are in very poor positions in the room e.g. close to all the coats. Food suffers from far too much trans fat and sugar in the wrong places including the sauces, and the portions are very small given the prices so you fill up on bread. Some decent wine on the list, at a price. "
