Breaking news

September 25, 2023: The restaurant is about to close at the Piccadilly address and move to a new location in Soho, as yet TBA.

Harden's says

Closed in January 2021 (along with all the other branches) after the parent company went into administration, this branch was relaunched in February 2022 after being bought out by Naveen Hana of the family-owned Cairn hotel group. Ex-Moor Hall chefs Jamie Butler and Lewis Spencer are in charge of the food, which aims to be “luxury at affordable prices”.

“Good to see Richoux return” on its old Mayfair site, and the new incarnation is “an improvement on the old chain” (which fell into administration in 2021). Its patisserie and all-day menu are still “excellent for a light meal or afternoon tea”, but the cuisine generally (overseen by ex-Moor Hall chefs, Jamie Butler and Lewis Spencer) rises much above the workaday standards of its former format: “a simple French selection of dishes that’s excellently executed”, delivered by “friendly and charming service” and which provides very solid value too.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"This time we were seated with an annoying maitre'd insisting upon a reservation. The salads were ok, and the service was attentive."
