The City views are splendid at this rooftop venue, in the fine Grade II-listed former Smithfield market warehouse – converted into a multi-floor destination in the 1990s, of which this is the flagship dining option. Though it can seem a little ‘City’ in its approach, fans feel it’s “still a solid choice for lunch”. But not everyone’s wild about the new menu (“just say no to small plate hell – this should have remained a steak restaurant!”)

With fine views from the fringes of the City, this (slightly pricey) rooftop venue on top of a four-floor Smithfield destination is well-known as a “business-focused” venue, but it has broadened its appeal in recent times – there’s less focus on steak and a new rooftop brunch.

A “lovely location” with “great views” across the meat market to the City is reason enough to visit this top-floor venue, with a menu that focuses unsurprisingly on red meat. There’s a “good atmosphere, with tables not too close together”, which makes it a top choice for City-fringe business lunches. The “fixed-price steak and Malbec is great value for money”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
