“Consistently great meat at a very reasonable price, given the quality of product” again wins the highest marks for Cleo Vizioli’s street market hit, known for its rolls loaded with smoked cuts. Just look out for the old steam locomotive, and you can watch your meal roasting away in the boiler!

It’s a dead cinch to spot Cleo Vizioli’s street market stall at Spitalfields Market: it‘s the one with the old train locomotive! This is the only permanent site, although there are three other locos in the pipeline to serve events and markets around town. The USP is its “amazing smoked meats”: “there’s always a queue, but the meat-loaded rolls are divine”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Have you eaten at Smokoloko?

Owner's description

Smokoloko is the evolution in the smoked barbecue business. Catering at street markets and events, directly from their vintage locomotive stalls, Smokoloko serves smoked meat sandwiches bursting with flavours and aromas.

Our meats are carefully selected taking in mind its provenance and quality, then smoked for 6 hours in cherry wood and herbs. The fresh and fluffy bread flatbread is sourced daily and handmade by a specialist middle eastern bread stall in Dalston market. Add delicious grilled onions and there you have it, a succulent smoked meat sandwich fit for a king.

SMOKOLOKO was born at Comida Fest’s first edition, in South Bank and it has been a success since then. SMOKOLOKO is now expanding and growing its operations with the addition of three extra locomotives. The smoking meat specialists are now a permanent fixture at Spitalfields Market, and have also been selling on ad hoc basis in Shoreditch, Canary Wharf as well as taking part in outdoor events at Trafalgar Square, Brixton and the Brazilian Embassy.

WHERE WE ARE
