As it approaches its 30th anniversary, Colin Clydesdale and Carol Wright’s bar/restaurant remains a well-known local icon for Glasgow foodies, but has never inspired matching interest in our annual diners’ poll. Its motto of ‘Think Global, Eat Local’ has held up very well over the years, with its eclectic mixture of ‘world food’ from Scottish ingredients having proved well ahead of its time.

Colin Clydesdale and Carol Wright’s iconic bar has been a celebrated feature of Glaswegian life for the last 28 years, spearheading a ‘world food’ take on Scottish ingredients that was ahead of its time. It never inspires quite as much interest from non-locals though, and even those who say its imaginative food is “very good” can find it a tad “pricey”. In late 2021, their refurbished cellar opened as a new events space.

Now in its 26th year, Colin Clydesdale’s well-known local operates on the principle ‘think global, eat local’, serving an eclectic selection of dishes on world food principles using Scottish ingredients in its basement restaurant. Many regulars just go for a burger or other bar snacks in the popular ground floor bar, however (same kitchen).

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
