Harden's says

The Gladwin Brothers - behind The Shed, Rabbit and Nutbourne - have opened this new ‘local and wild’ restaurant, on the site of Arbutus (RIP). It won't be focused on sharing plates like the others, there'll a separate bar section at the front and a chef's table downstairs for 20.

“Creative food, interested staff and a pleasant space” (formerly Arbutus, RIP) have made this ‘farm-to-fork’ venue from the prolific Gladwin family “a great addition to Soho”. Launched in 2019, it’s their only outpost in the West End but they now have six London restaurants stretching from ‘The Shed’ in Notting Hill to ‘The Fat Badger’ in Richmond – this is the best-rated of the bunch.

The Gladwin Brothers – behind The Shed, Rabbit and Nutbourne – graduated to the West End in autumn 2019, with the opening of this new ‘local and wild’ venture, on the site of Arbutus (long RIP). It’s a U-shaped space, with a bar at the entrance, and tables for eating tucked around the corner. (In the basement, there’s a chef’s table for 20). Produce is from the family farm on the South Downs, but the menu here is less sharing plates focused than at its siblings. The odd reporter feels the results from an “appealing menu” are “OK but not memorable”, but most feedback says it’s “very good”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Pub grub, nouvelle portions. Wine mark up over 400% (compared to retail). Poor VFM, compensated for partially by location and vibe. Service good: on-the-ball and helpful with allergy requirements. 5 May 2023"

"The wine list was interesting, the menu excellent, the food was generally well designed (marmite brioches, trout, scallops, and so on.) The fish mains lacked a bit of ambition - these guys are meat centric. Generally impressive: only problem was that - at a long saturday lunch, we were the only people there: ambience could be very strong with a full room. "
