Harden's survey result
Summary
“Flavours bursting out everywhere” characterise the “great range of veggie food” (“Wow! I didn’t know meat-free food could taste this great!”) at this “very-Brighton-in-ambience” legend in The Lanes – according to many, “still the best vegetarian in the UK”. Quibbles this year included “a menu that seemed less extensive than it used to be and service that was a little erratic”. On most accounts, though, it’s “simply the best” and “a must on any trip to Brighton (and we are not vegetarians… we just love the high quality and imaginative food!”). Top Menu Tip – “afternoon tea here is different and delicious, with a great variety of vegetarian savoury and sweet items”.
Summary
“Still the best vegetarian after all these years” – this epic Lanes destination remains many reporters’ nomination as top veggie in the country. “The menu is creative and full of wonderful descriptions” (“not a nut roast in sight!”) and delivers “complex” cuisine, whose “unusual and amazing tastes are definitely a gastronomic experience for vegetarians, and meat eaters are wowed too!”.
Summary
“Who needs meat?” – This Lanes icon is “still the finest veggie around”: indisputably “the best in Brighton” and many reporters feel “unquestionably the best veggie in Britain” too. Its “adventurous and fun menu” (“some absolute stormers!”) is reliably “exciting” and “has every angle covered if your tendencies splash over into the domains of veganism or gluten free diets, plus a good worldwide selection of organic wines (red and white) along with some pretty unusual sparkling ones”. “Definitely well worth a visit even if you are a dedicated carnivore”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Terre à Terre Restaurant Diner Reviews
"A very superior Vegetarian restaurant . We had the teasing plate which was quite expensive fir the quantity of food but it was most unusual and full of flavour. ingredients all local. Service disappeared towards the end but otherwise excellent. "
"Lunch in rear conservatory is a good experience. Initially, serves was amazing, with effusive greeting and much explanation of the menu. In fact the menu is fairly limited as several dishes are on the tasting menu and in the a la carte. As it was our first visit, we had the tasting menu (£47 for 2) which arrives on a sharing plate with two of everything except the salad. Overall interesting, perhaps needed more texture - common problem with veg. Nice choice of local wines. Very good deserts - keep space. The modest mark for service is because we had a wait for the main course but then no one came to take the desert order. I had to search the restaurant to find someone to give me the bill. Annoying end to what could have been a terrific meal. I am sure it was an aberration! £80 for two. "
