Summary
“In the teeth of ever-growing competition in the Middle Eastern/eastern Med bracket”, this funky Tel Aviv-inspired grill on the edge of Chinatown continues to justify its reputation, serving “fantastic sharing plates” with “good robust flavours” in a “fun” and “buzzy” – if “rather crowded and very noisy” – setting.
Summary
“A little hidden treasure” on the edge of Chinatown, this Tel Aviv-inspired grill produces “wonderful”, “genuinely imaginative Middle Eastern cooking” – much of it served in “tapas-style portions”. It’s best enjoyed from a perch at the bar, so you can watch the chefs in action. “If you’re sat opposite the oven it’s like being in a furnace, but they always do a great job”.
Summary
“Deafening and crowded, but that’s all part of the fun” – Tel Aviv comes to Theatreland at this “interesting haven”, on the fringe of Chinatown. “If you like atmosphere, too much noise, and somewhere right in the heart of things, it hits the bullseye”; and “sitting at the bar, bantering with the chefs and soaking up the superb playlist help make this a truly memorable occasion”. The “stunning and stunningly different”, “Israeli-influenced” small plates are “simply scrumptious” too, even if “prices are high for such a quick turnover of covers”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The Palomar Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Sit at the bar for wonderful atmosphere "
"The Palomar used to be one of my favourite restaurants in London. This revisit was our first visit shortly after their reopening after renovation. The concept is still small plates, but we felt that everything else has turned for worse. It has lost its unique ambiance, service still good and professional, but not as cheerful as it used to be, and the latest price tag of the dishes may blow you off. The cooked dishes come at around 26 to 29 pounds per plate (plus service charge, of course) ... and remember it's still a small plates restaurant and the dishes are small indeed! Our bill summed up to a 215.25 GBP for two, including a bottle of a "cheap" wine and two glasses bubbly. In summary, I have removed The Palomar from my own recommendation's list for London visits. "
