“Always a delight” – former music exec Alex Payne’s “lovely little pub”, set opposite his Rectory Hotel, is “excellent for romantics” with its “consistently good food” (not least the oversubscribed Sunday lunch) and “great ambience” to boot.

“A superb pub, part of the Rectory Hotel” opposite, and likewise revamped by music biz owner Alex Payne a few years back. Whether it’s for the “first-class Sunday lunch (if you can get in)” or the “cosy” ambiance it’s “well worth a visit” by (nearly) all accounts.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
