December 2020: The restaurant will close in Spring 2021. Message on Instagram..."After almost six years residing and working alongside Artist Residence this chapter is coming to an end. We will be leaving our residence at the hotel on 31 March 2021. We want to close the chapter by putting out the best food we have ever cooked, so please do book in to come and say goodbye with a final meal with us.
"There are too many people to mention but you know who you are are. Again a huge thanks; your help, support and compassion has fuelled the restaurant and made it something we are proud of.
"We hope the Set will live on. The new year may bring us a new home, or we may look at new projects such as pop-ups, exclusive private dining and some other stuff (once we think of it). We shall keep you posted."
Harden's survey result
Summary
Eat from a “tempting short menu” (“there’s no longer just a set menu”) at Dan Kenny’s funky former pop-up that’s now permanently parked in a “relaxed and quiet” location, within a trendy boutique hotel. “How can kale taste like heaven? How can sultanas make such an intense jam? How can rhubarb zing in an eclair? Go visit The Set and discover for yourself!” But hurry – in December 2020, Kenny announced that the restaurant would cease trading at the end of March 2021.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The Set Restaurant Diner Reviews
"After hearing about this place for some years we finally got there and were not impressed, it is an evening operation in a basic cafe, which is fine but the lighting was extremely poor with two fairly dim hanging ceiling lights and many of the offerings were in small wooden bowls so it was almost impossible to see what you were getting. The food was not particularly wonderful anyway. So a disappointment."
"Excellent experience all round"
"The Set is one of my favourite places to be. The team are a great bunch of talented, down-to-earth, fun people with a huge passion for cooking and eating. There is one set menu on offer which changes according to seasonality and availability of the best ingredients, and is always full of big punchy flavours. There is a Japanese influence and inspiration running through their dishes - stunning sushi/sashimi, bags of umami flavour, cooking over fire (my salivary glands were doing somersaults whilst waiting for the next epic plate of food!). The food is high-end but the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, helped along by the cracking playlist. It's a big part of our experience whenever we go there."
"Great experience, innovative dishes and amazing produce. Seek out if in Brighton!"
