Harden's says

"A restaurant above a bakery." Such a simple description for a restaurant (that started as a series of supper clubs) from Jules Copperman, former GM at Big Jo, and Rob Sachdev, former sous chef at Brawn. Opened in September 2021 above the popular sourdough bakery.

“Such a fabulous place! Relaxed but with great attention to detail” – within a year of opening above the popular Landrace bakery, ex-Quality Chophouse and Brawn chef Rob Sachdev’s “austere” Med-inspired spot was being tipped by its fanclub as “the best restaurant in Bath” (in particular, of a more hip and casual variety). The weekly changing menu has an “amazing range of small plates to start, including the lightest, most delicious cheese puffs”, while “mains are typically one meat, fish or veggie pasta option”. Top Tip – “I’m still dreaming of those parmesan fritters”.

Summary

If you want hip and artisanal, this summer 2021 opening above a popular bakery looks like the way to go (although it opened too late for survey feedback). It’s from a couple of refugees from The Smoke with good CVs (Jules Copperstone and Rob Sachdev) and the focus is on locally sourced Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"The restaurant has now expanded with a lovely bar area and counter sitting and a big table for larger groups. All very cool decor. Charming owners really care about what they do. The menu changes weekly with a delicious pasta dish, a meat and fish dish and pleanty of small plates and lovely salads to trmpt you. Could eat it all, so delicious. Not fancy cooking but all the flavours so well thought out and locally sourced ingredients and the chef is very talented. Great interesting wines and vermouths and friendly intelligent service. It's a joy and easily the best restarant in Bath."

"Very high quality food and service from a young and enthusiastic team. The cheese fritters were wonderful, the courgettes more than adequate. The pasta 'main' was very nice without reaching any culinary heights, desserts were not very interesting. The space is a little spartan, with minimalist decor."

"Still our favorite in Bath despite a hot new contender. The couple that run it are passionate about their business producing beautiful plates of local, in season produce. The menu changes weekly with typically small plate starters of salads, cold cuts and 'those' amazing cheese fritters. Mains usually consist of a meat fish and vegetarian option typically a pasta dish which is silky and delicious. Lovely unusual wine list too. It's a small space but feels intimate and relaxed, the waiting staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Makes for the best dining experience in Bath."
