Harden's survey result
Summary
Celebrating its fifteenth year, Paul & Lisa Wedgwood’s basement restaurant is on (and partly under) the Royal Mile. Tastefully decorated, it wins strong all-round praise, especially for its competitively priced cuisine (there is a tasting menu, but also a seasonally changing à la carte option with a fair amount of choice).
Summary
Bang on (and partly under) the Royal Mile – Paul & Lisa Wedgwood’s contemporary Scottish establishment (est. 2007) is “consistently of very high quality”. The menu (à la carte or tasting) makes the very best of local, seasonal produce – an approach which Paul explores in popular guided foraging tours.
Summary
“Glad we found them before they became so popular and Paul becoming a personality!” – Paul & Lisa Wedgwood’s “gem of a restaurant” on the Royal Mile (much of it below ground) wins consistent praise for its “fabulous” modern Scottish cuisine: “very well executed dishes from locally sourced ingredients”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Owner's description
Regular travels around the world inspire both the food and award-winning wine list. Wedgwood is renowned for its eclectic menu, peppered with foraged wild herbs and leaves and some more innovative dishes always reflecting the seasons and what can be locally sourced. Diners can expect to see dishes such as Paul’s signature Scottish lobster crème Brulee, Isle of Mull Cheddar bread and butter pudding and Venison with its own haggis bon bons on the menu.
Recently refurbished, the light and bright restaurant pays homage to the history of the Royal Mile building blending original features with modern design and comfort and a Scottish twist.
In 2015 Wedgwood the Restaurant won SLTN’s Wine Award and also featured in the Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants list of 2015 with them commenting:
“The dynamic young chef Paul Wedgwood and his wife, Lisa, have created something very special among the tartan gonks of Edinburgh’s touristland, to show visitors the joys of Scottish food.”
