“Romantic but with a buzz”, this Covent Garden crowd-pleaser excels for its “consistent mixture of ambience, service and quality food”. Not surprisingly “a pre-theatre favourite”, it offers “no real gastronomic experiences” but superior comfort food, such as the “delicious and imaginative mini ham-and-cheese toastie starter portions: to die for!”. Like its older sister Kitty FIsher’s in Shepherd Market, it’s named after a courtesan who, in times gone by, frequented the area.

“Cosily atmospheric”, with a “stylish theatrical ambience”, this little sister of Kitty Fisher’s in Shepherd Market (both are named after historical courtesans) is “particularly welcome in Covent Garden”. There’s a “delicious short menu” of “sophisticated British comfort food”, and “efficient but personal service which creates a warmish glow”. Top Tips: “the chips are to die for” and the kitchen “does rose veal like nowhere else”.

“One of the more individual, thoughtful places opening up in Covent Garden” – this “lively”, “very enjoyable little sister of Kitty Fisher” opened in mid-2018, and inspires many reports of “simple, luxurious food” from “an incredibly attractive menu” of “delicious, little, sharing bites”. “Decent-without-being-exceptional” is another school of opinion on the cooking, though, and middling ratings overall take into account seating that’s “so cramped” and service that’s “at times, pushy, brisk and hurried”. Top Tip – “I’m not sure what they did to the chips but they transcended any normal form of potato – order a bowl each as you won’t want to share!”

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Dinner for 5. We were so well-looked after...
Reviewed 11 months,

"Dinner for 5. We were so well-looked after it was phenomenal - waitress really helpful both in terms of steering us in the right direction (eg the steak was indeed comfortably shareable between 3) and in bespoking a few things! Menu highlights: the roe crumpets and the dressed crab bun were both sensational, and its signature “ham and cheese toastie” (really made using pulled pork) is an absolute must-have. It also claims (on the sign outside) to do the best chips in London - they are we think actually fried confit potatoes, and they are certainly in the mix for that title!"
