Steak and sushi bar in Islington’s Chapel Market with DIY hot stone cooking.
Harden's survey result
Summary
“What a great place to enjoy wagyu steak… which, as its name indicates, is cooked on a hot stone at the table” – Padam Raj Rai’s Islington ishiyaki is one of only a handful of UK restaurants selling certified Kobe beef, and also serves high-quality sushi and sashimi. Most reports are hymns of praise – occasional niggles relate to service that is occasionally “hit or miss”. Its former Fitzrovia sibling is now branded as Rai (see also).
For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
