The Côte d'Azur comes to Mayfair at this glamorous, “super-slick” and “always busy” operation, tucked away near Claridges, which – since 2007 – has led the way with its “fantastic, light small plates”: “not your typical French, heavy, creamy food” but heavenly dishes that “leave you feeling like you ate healthily”. Even those rating it “outstanding all round” can find it “overpriced” – a better verdict would be “expensive but worth it”.

“Every dish is a winner”“the freshest-tasting ingredients, served simply, Mediterranean-style” – at this slice of the French Riviera transposed to a Mayfair mews. Much of its personality derives from the “expensive and very international crowd” that it attracts (“the noise level can make conversation difficult”), but while it’s “not cheap, great care is taken”. Now known by its acronym, it is modelled on the original La Petite Maison in Nice, and chef Raphael Duntoye has spun the concept out to the Middle East, Miami and Hong Kong in recent years. The London flagship was extended in 2020, with the addition of a seafood and cocktail bar.

“Beautiful, light, fresh sharing plates” bring a taste of Mediterranean sunshine to a glam Mayfair crowd at this spin-out of a famous Côte d’Azur haunt – “not the usual cream and butter of French cooking, but delectable!”. Although, just as in the South of France, the arrival of the bill can induce a mild seizure. Chef Raphael Duntoye has tweaked the original formula here for the London market – “it’s nothing like the Nice original” – which he has since exported to the Middle East, Miami and most recently Hong Kong.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Food mostly very good - in particular excellent fish dishes - though let down in a couple of points. The sharing concept seems a bit confused and forced, and there’s a bit of a more money than sense vibe - not surprising in this location. Surprised to hear this described as romantic; to me it was cramped and a little rushed. "
