Rohit Ghai’s solo debut is an Indian fine-dining restaurant on the former site of Vineet Bhatia (RIP). Ghai previously cooked at Gymkhana, Jamavar, and Bombay Bustle; 'Kutir' means cottage in Sanskrit.

“It’s always a great pleasure to dine at this beautiful Chelsea townhouse with a lovely summer terrace upstairs!” Rohit Ghai’s “inventive” cuisine is some of the best Indian food in London: “heavily spiced” and delivered by “impeccable staff” in a “bright, airy and compact dining room”.

“Brilliantly vivid and fresh flavours” from Rohit Ghai’s “wonderful” Indian three-year-old make it a worthy successor to the previous incumbent on this Chelsea site (Vineet Bhatia’s Rasoi, RIP). Adding to its appeal, “it feels like dining in a private house” (“a great setting for a proper catch-up with friends”) with “charming staff”. And – on the first floor – “a small rooftop space lends further appeal”.

Rohit Ghai has done it again at his late-2018 yearling: the latest occupant of the “cosy” and “romantic” (if “on-the-quiet-side”) Chelsea townhouse, which for many years was another premier Indian (Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, RIP). Practically all reports are a hymn of praise to his “faultless cooking”, which has immediately propelled it into London’s very top tier for nouvelle Indian cuisine.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Location fabulous, ambience welcoming and decor quite inspired; service attentive, unobtrusive, swift.... But the food? Rarely in an Indian restaurant have the flavours jarred, aromatics battled against each other in such a way. The ingredients include lobster, scallop, lamb, duck, guinea fowl which must have been carefully sourced. Very sadly, they were extremely poorly sauced. "
